About Waves of Change

Chantal McFeely swimming for charity to raise awareness for mental health

HI, I'M CHANTAL

My passion is to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of those struggling with their mental health.

“Whatever you dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now”.         Goethe

My journey began in Dec 2020 when I lost my soulmate and the father of my two sons due to him struggling with his mental health and addictions . Many people feel lost and alone and don't speak up or ask for help, and at times they feel the system can let them down. After losing Robin I wanted to honour his memory and make a difference in supporting other that might be struggling with their mental health.

Initially I started to create mental health awareness  by doing charity work through my swimming challenges. This led to me being offered the opportunity to become a radio presenter on Smile Radio. I chose to use this platform to conduct interviews around mental health, with a focus on addiction. My final project with Smile was to create a ten-part series called ‘Voices of River Garden’. This was designed to show the impact of addiction from a range of perspectives and can be found under the Mental Health Interviews.

Ever since ‘lockdown’, open water swimming has become my sanctuary. It has helped me become more resilient, focused, determined and has improved my health. It also prompted me to turn my journal entries into a book, ‘Waves of Change’ book which documents my journey from a novice to completing a swim of 1.2 miles for my first charity swim.

I have now completed three open water charity swims ranging from 2k to 7k and raised over £7000 for my chosen charities. I have also delivered three ‘author talks’ with more planned in the near future.

I currently host a weekly vlog called ‘Chatty Tuesday’ and will shortly be embarking on an MSc in Mindfulness.

Lots of love and light to you all, it so wonderful to have you here xx
